Day One: RNC Theme -- Economic Rights
IndyBay
August 28, 2012
The theme for Day One of demonstrations at this year's Republican National Convention was Economic Rights. The Coalition to March On The RNC organized an officially permitted march from Perry Harvey Sr. Park to the "Free Speech Zone." The "Free Speech Zone" is a vacant lot below East Walton Street at South Nebraska Avenue, currently surrounded by new fencing within sight of the Tampa Bay Times Forum, the primary venue the 2012 RNC. Several speakers from the rally at the end of the march are included here.

Oral Argument on Permanent Injunction Against Military Detentions Held
Below is an interview with Bruce Afran the lawyer challenging the NDAA after the court hearing today. It sounds like the hearing went well, but I can imagine the judge is under a lot of pressure; and I'm also concerned about the appeals court. Too often the further away from the people a court is the worse the outcomes for the people. I expect this case will end up before the Supremes -- and that has me especially worried as both parties have nominated justices who believe in executive power and bend over for national security.
