My work contacts with Padre Camilo Torres and work with the poor in Bogota in 1964 planted the seeds. My work with displaced persons during the war in Vietnam in the late 1960s reinforced the view that the exploitation of the poor in the Capitalist system requires structural change. The system is on the verge of collapse. October 6 may be the beginning of real effort to achieve the social justice goals of a socialist state. I have informed my students and will join the beginning of this change.

Because I believe our country needs to prioritize our needs and tend to the problems we as Americans have and get out of the Middle East.

Because I believe that we have been of sheepish mentality, unwilling or unable to protest what we see are grave wrongs. We have needed an organizing element, now we need to show up. Our needs for a good health care system, a free higher education system, investment in green energy and its resultant jobs and of course help for the poor and disenfranchised, could be funded by the Billions we spend on wars.

I will be there to help dismantle the machine that perpetuates the system of wealth for the few, power of one over another, and destruction of the planet for capital gains.

Things need to change in America, only We The People can change our Country, no elected official can do it, the President can't, Corporations won't, the longer we wait the harder it will be.

These murderous wars are killing innocent and guilty people on both sides. No one should die needlessly as they are doing. The Wars started because wealthy war mongers and oil kings make obscene amounts of money from War. Meanwhile our domestic needs are being ignored. It is time that the politicians serve the people and not the controlling American God - MONEY.
