The Occupy National Gathering which began Saturday in Philadelphia enters its third day of protest on Tuesday with dozens of American war veterans protesting U.S. wars and occupations along with hundreds of other occupy protesters.

Less than an hour before the rally began, the U.S. Desk learned that police were preparing to disperse and arrest protesters who they say have no permit to hold rallies. Ward Reilly, from Veterans for Peace, told the U.S. Desk that those participating in the rally will “stand” in the scene despite possible “arrests.”

He said that they were gathering in the “First Amendment Park” to try to end the occupations, to call attentions to drone warfare [and] all the critical issues that are happening in this country right now.”

Reilly expressed dismay at the fact that “the very veterans who have guaranteed that we have a First Amendment and a Constitution” are seeing their First Amendment rights violated by being forced out of their protest events.

Police have been clearing up Occupy encampments all over the United States on the ground that they don’t have a permit to hold gathering in public spaces.  “Our permit is our First Amendment and this is a peaceful gathering,” Reilly noted.

Philadelphia organizers expected some 1500 people to gather today to protest against economic inequality and deadly CIA drone campaign overseas.

Reilly said minutes before the rally, “about 30 to 40 military veterans and several hundred non-veterans” attended the event.

Twenty-six occupy members were arrested during a protest Sunday night, according to Philadelphia police.

Occupy member, Michael Smith recorded video of the arrests. He says a small band of occupiers were marching peacefully at 12th and Arch streets, when police moved in.
