Bradley Manning Supporters and Veterans to Rally Throughout West Coast

By Kevin Zeese - Posted on 15 August 2012

Advocates for PFC Bradley Manning, led by Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans including Scott Olsen, will demonstrate for the Nobel Peace Prize nominee throughout the West Coast on Thursday, August 16, at 5:00 PM. Actions are planned at Oscar Grant Grant Plaza in Oakland, CA, at Army recruitment offices in Portland, OR, and at Syd Kronenthal in Los Angeles, CA. Created by the Bradley Manning Support Network and Courage to Resist, the event is co-sponsored by anti-war activist groups such as SF Bay Iraq Veterans Against the War, World Can’t Wait, Code Pink, Catalyst Project, March Forward, Occupy AIDS and Global Exchange.

Accused WikiLeaks whistle-blower PFC Bradley Manning’s lawyer, David Coombs, just published on his blog his Article 13 motion to dismiss, which documents the extensive and punitive abuse Bradley was subjected to while detained at the Quantico Marine Brig. Military emails reveal that a three-star general ordered Bradley’s illegal and brutal treatment, which included solitary confinement and which UN torture chief Juan Mendez concluded was “cruel and inhuman.” This motion will be argued at Ft. Meade at the October 1-5 hearing; however, Bradley will return to court before that, for a motion hearing August 27-31.
